The Artists

Gregory Kevin Waters

A Lifelong Artist and Visionary

Lisbon Falls, Maine: For Gregory Kevin Waters, art has never simply been something he does. It is something he has lived.

From the earliest days of his childhood, Greg found himself drawn to the world through the eyes of an artist. With nothing more than a pencil and a piece of paper, he spent countless hours sketching whatever captured his imagination. The landscapes of Maine, its forests, waterways, wildlife, and changing seasons became a constant source of inspiration.

What began as childhood sketches slowly became a lifelong calling.

As Greg’s skills developed, so did his desire to challenge himself. He moved beyond pencil and paper and began creating larger works on canvas, teaching himself the techniques of oil and acrylic painting. Color, texture, depth, and movement opened an entirely new world of possibilities. With every painting, Greg continued to push himself, constantly learning, experimenting, and searching for new ways to bring the images in his mind into the physical world.

Exploring Tattoo Art

Never satisfied with standing still creatively, Greg eventually stepped into another demanding form of artistic expression: tattoo artistry.

For Greg, tattooing was more than simply putting ink into skin. It was about understanding design, composition, permanence, and the responsibility that comes with creating something that becomes part of another person or yourself.

His commitment to learning the craft was fearless. Greg even practiced on his own skin, creating tattoos that became permanent reminders of his willingness to take risks, learn through experience, and trust his artistic instincts.

But even after mastering another medium, Greg knew there was still something calling him forward.

He wanted something bigger.

Something more physical.

Something that would allow him to create on a completely different scale.

The Turning Point: Chainsaw Carving

In late 2014, Greg’s artistic journey took a powerful and unexpected turn.

He traded the paintbrush and tattoo machine for a chainsaw.

The canvas became wood.

And what began as a challenge quickly became a defining chapter of his life.

Greg entered the world of chainsaw carving with determination, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. His early work focused heavily on the natural world that had inspired him since childhood, including eagles, owls, cardinals, bears, and other wildlife.

There was something different about carving.

The wood fought back.

Every cut mattered. Every mistake was permanent. The chainsaw demanded strength, precision, patience, and complete concentration.

Yet Greg embraced the challenge.

With each log, each stump, and each new project, his confidence and abilities grew. He began developing his own approach to carving, transforming raw timber into expressive sculptures filled with movement, character, and emotion.

What started as an artistic experiment became a passion.

Then it became a craft.

And eventually, it became a way of life.

From Logs to Living Art

As Greg continued to grow as a sculptor, so did the scale and complexity of his work.

He began taking on larger projects and developing a specialty in large scale and onsite chainsaw carving. Towering tiki figures, wildlife, imaginative characters, custom sculptures, and one of a kind creations began emerging from massive pieces of wood.

Every log presented a new challenge.

Every piece of wood had a story waiting to be uncovered.

Greg learned to look beyond the surface, to see the shape hidden inside the timber and allow the natural characteristics of the wood to influence the final creation.

His chainsaw became more than a tool.

It became an extension of his imagination.

Art With Power, Heart, and Passion

Chainsaw carving is an unusual combination of power and precision.

It requires strength, focus, confidence, and an extraordinary respect for the tools and the material. From chainsaws and grinders to chisels and hand tools, Greg uses whatever is necessary to transform rough, untouched wood into something that can stop people in their tracks.

But behind the noise and power of the chainsaw is something much quieter

The Passion Behind the Artist

For Greg, art has always been more than creating something people can see. It has been a way to express himself, find purpose, and keep moving forward through life.

There have been struggles, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but each one has become part of the journey. They have taught him to keep learning, keep pushing, and never stop believing in what he can create.

Greg believes that passion comes from within. It is the drive to keep going when things are difficult, to take an idea and turn it into something real, and to never stop growing.

That passion has followed him from the pencil he held as a child to the chainsaw he holds today.

Greg also believes in giving back to the community that has supported him along the way. He enjoys sharing ideas, helping others grow, and finding new ways to bring people together through creativity and art.

For Greg, creating is not only about what he can build with his own hands. It is also about what he can inspire in others.
